The story behind Jopen begins in the fourteenth century when Haarlem developed into one of the most important brewing cities in the Netherlands. Breweries are running at full speed and the beer is transported across the Spaarne in 'Jopen' (barrels of 112 liters). The beer is of excellent quality and is even drunk abroad. But fame comes to an end. In 1916 the last Haarlem brewery closes its gates.
The grand café is located on the ground floor of the Jopenkerk and is open every day from 10 a.m. to 1 a.m. (including holidays). You can always visit us for a cup of coffee or a glass of Jopen beer. Are you coming for lunch? Or do you want to come for a tasting? Then you can make a reservation in advance.
The Grand Café is wheelchair accessible.
Pay attention! As much as we love dogs, cats, and fish, animals are not allowed as we are a manufacturing company.
Enjoy the best beer-food combinations in our restaurant, on the 1st floor (no elevator). Craft beer and food meet in a surprising way in the Jopenkerk Haarlem. On our menu you will find a variety of dishes with a nod to the own Jopen beer; woven through the menu like a thread. Every dish can be wonderfully combined with our beautiful beers, which makes the flavors stand out even better. We also have an extensive, carefully composed wine list for non-beer lovers. If you want to be sure of a place in the restaurant, it is wise to book in advance.
In addition to dinner a la carte, we serve dinners for groups. The restaurant can accommodate 80 people but is also possible to hire for a Walking Dinner, for example.
Pay attention! The restaurant is located on the 1st floor and is not wheelchair accessible.
The Pastorie is located on the ground floor at the back of the grand café of the Jopenkerk. The former official residence of the pastor has been completely renovated by interior designers ESTIDA and is extremely suitable for smaller groups of 25 to 60 people. Because the space is private, it is ideal for a meeting (with or without lunch), brainstorming sessions, presentations, beer tasting, or private drinks. Direct reservation is possible via the website. For special wishes, you can contact us.
* On Friday & Saturday evenings, a room rental of € 200 + minimum turnover guarantee of € 500 applies.
You can watch the brewing process from the Grand Café and restaurant of the Jopenkerk Haarlem. As the brewery is woven into the church, guided tours cannot be given here. The space behind the brewing kettles is simply too small for this. From Monday to Friday, brewers are brewing and you can watch this while enjoying a Jopen beer.
